🌱 Starting Moringa Seeds Indoors
(Then Moving Outdoors)
Moringa is actually very easy to start — you just have to get moisture and temperature right.
🌿 Planting the Seeds
• Plant 2 seeds per pot (in case one doesn’t germinate).
• Space them slightly apart in the same container.
• Plant ½”–¾” deep in well-draining soil.
• Soil temperature should ideally be 70–75°F (warmer is fine; below 65°F slows germination).
• Keep the soil moist, not soaked.
• Seeds should germinate in 7–10 days (sometimes up to 14 if cooler).
Once both sprout:
• Wait until you can clearly see which one is stronger.
• Thin out the weaker seedling by snipping it at soil level (don’t pull it — you don’t want to disturb roots).
☀️ Indoor Care After Germination
• Give them 6–8 hours of bright light daily (sunny window or grow light).
• Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.
• Do not overwater — moringa hates soggy roots.
• No heavy fertilizer needed early on. If desired, use a very diluted balanced fertilizer after a few weeks.
🌤 Hardening Off Before Moving Outside
Once all frost danger has passed and outdoor soil temps are consistently above 70°F, begin hardening off:
1. Day 1–2: A few hours outside in partial shade.
2. Gradually increase sun exposure over 7–10 days.
3. Protect from strong wind during this period.
Moringa loves heat — it does not love cold shock.
🌳 Transplanting Outdoors
• Choose full sun.
• Use well-draining soil (sandy loam is ideal).
• Plant at the same depth as in the pot.
• Space 3–6 feet apart if growing as trees.
• Water well after transplanting, then allow soil to dry slightly between watering.
Once established, moringa becomes very drought tolerant.
✂️ Optional But Recommended
If you’re growing for leaves:
• Pinch or prune the top once it reaches 12–18 inches.
• This encourages bushier growth and more leaf production.
